A Solid Foundation: Built on the Rock of Christ-Sheba International
"And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock." — Matthew 7:25
A few years ago, I found myself reflecting on the story of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. The tower is renowned for its unexpected tilt, which began during its construction. The problem stemmed from an unstable foundation—soft soil beneath the tower caused it to lean as the construction progressed. Over the years, many efforts have been made to stabilize the tower. In 1990, it was even closed to visitors for a major restoration project, which lasted nearly 11 years. Engineers were able to reduce the lean by 19 inches and stabilize the building for the future. Still, the foundation is on soft ground, and no one can say with certainty whether the tower will remain stable forever.
As I thought about the Leaning Tower of Pisa, it struck me how important the foundation is to the stability of any structure. Without a solid foundation, a building is at risk of failure. It could crack, lean, or even collapse. The same is true in the Christian life—without a firm, unwavering foundation, we are susceptible to spiritual instability.
The Importance of a Strong Foundation
Just as the Leaning Tower of Pisa’s foundation was compromised, many of us may find our lives built on shaky ground. The world offers many things that may seem to provide security—wealth, success, relationships, and possessions—but none of these things can provide the solid foundation we need to withstand the storms of life. Even if we live according to society’s standards, following every trend and doing everything right by the world’s rules, our foundation can still be weak.
In contrast, Jesus Christ offers us the only secure and unshakable foundation. When we build our lives on Him, we are grounded on a rock that will not move, no matter what comes our way. As the scripture says, when the storms of life come, we won’t be shaken or destroyed because we are founded on the solid rock of Christ.
Jesus: The Rock That Will Not Collapse
There will inevitably be times when life feels uncertain—when the floods of trouble come, and the winds of anxiety blow. There may be seasons when you feel as though your world is crumbling around you, when the pressures of life seem overwhelming. But remember, if your foundation is in Jesus Christ, you are anchored in something far stronger than anything the world can offer.
Christ is our refuge and our strength. He is the One who holds us steady in the midst of life’s storms. He promises that when we place our trust in Him, we can have peace even in the most difficult circumstances. Though the world may shift, His love remains constant. Though our circumstances may change, His presence never leaves us.
If your life feels rocky, if the walls seem to be caving in, take comfort in knowing that your foundation in Christ is unshakable. He will never collapse under pressure, and neither will you when you stand on Him.
Building on the Rock
The story of the Leaning Tower of Pisa is a reminder that a solid foundation is essential for stability. In our own lives, this foundation must be built on Jesus Christ. He alone is the rock that can withstand the storms of life, and in Him, we find the strength to persevere.
If you find yourself struggling to find peace, or if you feel like your life is built on shaky ground, I encourage you to turn to Jesus. His invitation to us is clear: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
By establishing our lives on the unshakable foundation of Christ, we ensure that no matter what challenges may come, we will stand firm. With Him as our foundation, we are not only built to withstand life’s storms, but we are also given the strength to rise above them.
Conclusion
When life gets tough and the storms seem overwhelming, take heart in knowing that your foundation in Christ will never fail. Just as the Leaning Tower of Pisa needed adjustments to remain stable, we too need to keep our foundation strong by constantly turning to Jesus and relying on Him. In Him, we find peace, security, and the strength to face whatever comes our way. Keep your life rooted in the Rock, and you will stand firm through any storm.
In Christ
